(IMPROVMENT ON THE CA2)
Part A ~ During Chinese New Year eve , I ate reunion dinner(steamboat) together with my family. My brothers and I received red packets from our parents . It is a tradition of the Chinese that parents must give their children red packets to wish them good luck and to grow up healthily .
On that night , my family and I watched television and chatted happily together . The next day , my family and I went to my grandmother's house and ate our lunch there .My brother and i received a lot of red packets ('Hong Bao' in chinese). Then , we went to City Hall and shopped there .
On the second day of Chinese New Year , i went to my home teacher's house . Her house is big and we had a lot of fun that day . We played many fun games and ate lots of food there . My classmates and I enjoyed ourselves !
This year although Chinese New Year was only a few days,I enjoyed my few days of break!!!

PartB ~ Actually , my family did not really celebrate much during Christmas . I called my friend and we organised a Christmas party and celebrate Christmas with her together with my brothers while Jess did not receive any gifts from his family . At least I did . We exchange gifts with my brothers . Jess's mother bought gifts for the little girls , while my parents did not buy any present for us . Jess and Leslie exchange gifts like my brothers and my friend . Jess did not feel that Christmas was coming when he was with his family .

I prefer the movie better as it let us know better of everything,for example,terabithia.
In the movie, i can see clearly what is going on and i can see their facial expression to know how they are feeling and so on.
When leslie died,i can feel the pain of her family in the movie but not in the book as i can clearly see what are their expressions and reactions,for example,many of them are crying.

1) Why did Leslie die offstage in the movie ?

Basically , i think that it is quite dangerous and difficult to act that scene out .
The lead lady is young and i'm sure swinging on a rope and trying to act a scene out as well is difficult . Somemore , in the novel , Katherine Paterson didn't give the details specifically how Leslie died too , did she ?

2) Who/What does the Dark Lord represent ?

Leslie
It represented the fear of being laughed at . Embarrassed by not having a television which everyone else has , Leslie's 'Dark Lord' is this fear .

Jess
It represented the disappointment where almost everyone , even his family , didn't support him of his artwork .

Myself
The 'Dark Lord' represents as the fear of letting my family down .
I can let them down in many ways such as having behaviour problems or not meeting their expectations in my studies .

3) Do you prefer the movie of the novel ? Why ?

I think i will prefer the novel much better .
As i started reading the novel FIRST , i visualised my own version of 'Terabithia' .
After watching the movie , i realised how different my own version and the movie's version is .
I prefer visualising my own picture instead of depending on movies and others' pictures .
There's quite many stuffs i didn't like about the movie .

Why ?

The movie doesn't go according to the book very much(not that i can make it go according to it) and that it's just , different in my eyes . To me , i guess .

Which version you prefer?Why?
I prefer the novel.The novel allows us to imagine how the place look like and we can improve on our english as well.We only concentrate on the actors.In the novel, we could imagine how Jess or any other actors feel at any part of the story.In the movie,we could also see by the acting skills of the actors.But as compared,i prefer to imagine how Terabithia looks and how it feels like being chased by beasts(eg.).The movie only his facial expression,seldom his thoughts.

(1)Why did Leslie die offstage in the movie?

The reason why Leslie died offstage is because the director wants us to have a sudden change in mood,from very happy(Jess went out with Miss Edmund) to very sad(Jess knew Leslie had died).Leslie's death brought sadness and loneyness to Jess.As Jess and Leslie share lots of great time together,the sudden death of Leslie cause Jess to be very sad.

(2)Who/what does the Dark Lord represent?

Leslie:To Leslie, the Dark Lord represent the shame of not having a television,therefore,being teased and laugh by her classmate.
Jess:To Jess, theDarkLord represent the feeling of his artwork not accepting his artwork by Miss Edmund and his family.
Myself:My Dark Lord represent the lost of my mother.My mother plays a very important role in my daily life.she took care of my family and does all the housework.Whenever i need help, she will be the one who help me.

Which version did you like better? Why?

To me , I personally think that the novel is more interesting . It gives us our own space to think freely how Terabithia really looks like . Not that the movie is not good ; it let us see how people act out the novel and make us understand how Leslie and Jess really felt at any point of time in the novel . However , when we read the novel , we can imagine how Leslie and Jess felt in our minds , have 'different leslie and jess" and not just watch the movie and "oh , this is how they act it out" and end of story . Reading novels is one time that we can let our imagination run wild and no one will say that you are childish . We can have different scenarios at any point of time , unlike the movie where there is only 1 scene at 1 time , which can be quite boring also . And maybe we can be more inspired to come up with a more fun and enticing Terabithia of our own too .

1.Why did Leslie die offstage in the movie?

i think that it is because the movie director dosen't want to show the heartbreaking scene to us , it is indeed very sad that leslie had to die , and of course we would not want anyone to breakdown on seeing her die right ? it will be endangering the life of the child whom is playing leslie in the movie . it is a rainy season , and we cannot expect the child to lie on the creek just to shoot a movie as it will be to dangerous . also , when people know that the lead is dead , they would not be intrested in carrying on watching the movie and they would not have the mood to do so .

2.Who/what does the dark lord represent?

Jess: it represents his fear of his artworks always being rejected by his father and his talent not being recognised by his family , friends and teachers .

Leslie: the dark lord represents Leslie's fear of being laughed and mocked at . when the class knew that she did not have a television at home , they laughed at her and asked her to live in a cave instead .

Me: the dark lord represents my fear of not having $$$ . it may seem very out of topic , but then , as the saying goes , money makes the world goes round ! It is indeed VERY tough to go window shopping everytime right ? as i am someone who ALWAYS spend big big money when i go out , i feel very lost without these cash . However , money CANNOT buy true friendship and family , so no matter how much money you offer me , i will still choose my family and friends. (:

1.Why did Leslie die offstage in the movie?

I feel that Leslie die offstage in the movie because before Leslie die, Jess and Leslie was having a great time with each other and then Leslie suddenly die, the one who made the movie wants us to know how jess was feeling when they was having fun and he did not even think that Leslie would die so suddenly but she did. Jess could not believe that Leslie was dead and he felt very helpless.

2.Who/what does the Dark Lord represent?
1)Leslie
The Dark Lord represents being poor and being look down.When Leslie told the teacher that she does not have a television,everyone laughed at her and she must feel really bad.

2)Jess
The Dark Lord represents Jess's fear of his family and teachers not accepting his art talent. Jess can draw very well but his father thinks that drawing cannot let him earn money when he grows up but Jess loves to draw.

3)Myself
To me, the Dark Lord represents my fear of not doing well in my studies.
i always hope for good results as all of my family members hope that i will do well which makes my very stress.
